How to Read & Process Psychological Material
A lot of people pick up a self-help or psychological book...
Each therapist is trained as a generalist, meaning, that they can work with most difficulties. As their career progresses, they tend to gravitate toward particular issues and mine are listed below:
In addition I also enjoy working with clients experiencing career issues, existential/spiritual concerns, or a general feeling of being lost or stuck in life. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples.
I believe therapy is a powerful tool that can reveal and illuminate the workings of your inner world to help you better navigate your outer world. If you are willing to be brave and do the work, therapy can inspire and empower you to create the positive changes you need in order to live a life that is more aligned with your values and feels more in tune with your authentic self.
In my work with clients, I strive to provide a warm, safe, non-judgmental space for self-exploration, healing and growth. I love to hear people’s stories and help clients to gain insight into their past, increase awareness of their thoughts, patterns, and emotions, and discover their unique strengths. I collaborate with clients to co-create therapeutic goals and navigate the ups and downs of the healing process.
My approach is holistic, relational, and insight-oriented and integrates elements of cognitive-behavioral therapies such as CBT, DBT, and ACT. I also believe in the mind-body connection and for those interested, I can incorporate yoga, breathing, meditation and/or energetic practices into our sessions as well as teach you techniques to practice at home.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication and Political Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I completed my Master of Counseling Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. My graduate training experience includes working with the adolescent mental health population in the Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient program at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health. There, I gained experience in crisis intervention, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy working with individuals, families, and groups.
Prior to being a therapist, I have had the fortunate opportunity to explore a variety of jobs and careers. From early on I had a natural curiosity about people, a yearning for connection and expansion in my life, and an interest in a variety of healing modalities. To that end, I have been a Travel and Meeting Planner, an Event Design Producer, and a Clinical Operations Manager in oncology clinical research at Northwestern. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher having studied under the tutelage of Don and Amba Stapleton at the Nosara Yoga Institute in Nosara, Costa Rica and a Certified Professional Coach through the Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching (IPEC). I taught yoga for over 10 years at Bloom Yoga Studio in Chicago where I led weekly classes, Yoga 101, Creativity and Yoga workshops, and co-led 2 yoga retreats in Costa Rica. I have also completed Reiki Level I and II training. While I gained wonderful experiences in each of those fields, psychology was always a keen interest of mine and becoming a therapist was an idea I had toyed with for many years. It was through my own experience in therapy that I absolutely fell in love with the process and committed to a career in counseling. Now, I feel I have finally found the place where my skills, passion, and purpose all come together. I am so grateful that I get to do this work!
I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area and spent most of my adult life living in the city of Chicago. A few years ago my husband, Tak-Seng, and I moved to the northwest suburbs and are enjoying a lot more space and garage parking! We have an adorable Cavapoo dog named Freddie who you might see around the office sometimes.
In my free time, I feed my wanderlust with travel, love to hang out with Tak-Seng, friends, and family, practice yoga, try new restaurants, attempt to play more tennis, and devour books and television shows.
We take BCBS PPO plans, Aetna, Optum/United, Cigna and of course, private pay. We’re in process of getting credentialed with TriWest/TriCare and will update our list when it’s completed.
