Several therapeutic models fall within the most well known one, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). The most commonly used today are Dialectical Behavior Therapy (ACT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT – said like the word “act”) and traditional CBT. Wakeful utilizes these therapies while purposefully and deliberately integrating them with other treatment modalities. Regardless, self-help books for each of these can be extremely helpful if they’re utilized on an ongoing basis. A wonderfully dense, though a bit dry, and useful workbook. It’s full of exercises and very important explanations of ACT concepts that require time to reflect upon. Therefore, this shouldn’t be worked on rapidly. Read through the sections and the complete exercises until you feel you have enough to process for a couple of days. Trust your honest intuition to tell you when to take a break. Then, allow yourself to randomly reflect upon what you read during moments of waiting…so skip filling up every second with screen time or another song/podcast. You’ll see, this simply approach really helps!
Several clients have utilized this workbook and found it extremely useful. DBT emphasizes psychoeducation and skills development, which is why the workbook format works particularly well. This assumes that you’ll continue to chip away at it and practice applying the content in your daily life. Fundamentally, DBT is going to be for someone who’s experiencing much more severe emotional ups and downs and result in behaviors that are harmful or destructive. This workbook is a great additional for someone who’s working with a therapist or wants to reinforce what they’ve learned before.
